Detailed description and characteristics of the cabbage variety Nadezhda

You may not know new varieties of white cabbage - so many of them have appeared recently, you need to know the old, proven ones. The Nadezhda variety has been cultivated for a long time and successfully by summer residents, farmers and large agricultural enterprises. Using the standard technology, heads of cabbage of the optimal size, maturing, with a high content of useful microelements are obtained.

Description and characteristics of the variety

Mid-season plant, ripens in the period of 110-130 days from the emergence of shoots. It can be grown in all regions of the Russian Federation with the exception of the northern region., which includes Karelia, Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions, the Komi Republic.

The purpose is universal:

  1. Pickling.
  2. Salads.
  3. Culinary dishes prepared with heat treatment.

The main characteristics of the variety:

  • the standard size of heads of cabbage is 3.5 kg.
  • The declared yield is from 10 kg / m² to 14 kg / m². Landing scheme 0.6 * 0.6 m.
  • Round-flat heads of cabbage of dark green color have a short stump inside and a waxy coating on the outer surface of the leaf.

The rosette is medium in diameter - 70 cm. The structure of the head is dense, not prone to cracking. You can grow Nadezhda cabbage by sowing seeds directly into the ground or through seedlings. Seedlings are ready for transplanting at the age of 25-30 days from germination.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

For clarity, all the advantages and disadvantages of the variety are summarized in the table.

Growing seedlings

To obtain a harvest of the declared size in August-September, seeds for seedlings are sown in April. Prepare seedling boxes in autumn. To refuel them, mix in equal proportions:

  • sand;
  • peat;
  • land from the garden.

Be sure to disinfect the soil prepared by yourself. A pink solution of potassium permanganate will do. Sow cabbage seeds to a depth of 1.5 cm. Keep the boxes in the light and warm until sprouting. When the seeds hatch, lower the temperature (10-15 ° C) and light it up.

Picking helps to get strong seedlings - transplanting plants with 2-3 leaves into separate cassettes or larger boxes.

In greenhouses and polycarbonate greenhouses, it is easier to maintain an optimal regime for the growth of seedlings.

Growth conditions for this variety

When choosing a location, take into account a number of factors that directly affect the quality of taste, size and structure of the heads of cabbage. The quality of the crop is influenced by:

  1. Illumination.
  2. Crop rotation.
  3. Acidity.
  4. Fertility.
  5. The quality of soil cultivation.

Shade, partial shade to exclude. The beds should be illuminated by the sun all day. Otherwise, the heads of cabbage will be loose, excess nitrates will accumulate in them. Fruits grown in the shade are less well stored. For the health of cabbage, it is imperative to observe crop rotation. Plant after melons, green manures and nightshades.

The variety does not like acidic soils. Lime the soil no more than once every 5 years. In between, to lower the acidity level, add ash, chalk, dolomite flour for digging.

The yield declared in the description is obtained on cultivated soils with a sufficient amount of humus. The presence of weeds can provoke keel in plants.

How to prepare the soil for growing cabbage Nadezhda

To obtain full-fledged heads of cabbage, you need potassium, phosphorus, nitrogen and trace elements: copper, manganese, copper. The soil depletes over the years, it is necessary to restore its fertility after each sowing season.

Nadezhda responds well to organic matter (manure, humus, compost) mixed with peat. Any organic fertilizers are recommended to be applied in the fall. Minerals (phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen) are equally beneficial when applied in autumn and spring.

Do not add nitrogen above the norm specified in the instructions for use. Its excess causes the accumulation of nitrates in the leaves.

How to properly plant cabbage in open ground

Seedlings of mid-season cabbage varieties are planted after May 15. By this time, she has a well-formed, fibrous root system and a few leaves. The seedlings reach this development in 2 weeks.

For seedlings, you need to prepare holes by placing them at a distance of 0.6 m from each other. Some gardeners prefer to plant the cabbage in a groove dug to a depth of 25 cm.

Bury the seedlings up to the cotyledonous leaves. Water the soil after transplanting abundantly until the soil is viscous. Planted in well-moisturized soil, the seedlings do not wither and grow quickly.

Seedlings can be shaded for a week with buckets, boxes, cardboard boxes. In the shade, she suffers less from sunburn. When the topsoil dries up, water the plantings. The recommended watering scheme is once every 3 days. The rate of water is 10 l / m².

Variety care after planting

After planting, insist the mullein and water the cabbage patch with it after 3 weeks (1 liter per bucket). Water the cabbage abundantly from July to August at least once a week.

During the season, feed the cabbage 3 times with complex mineral fertilizers.

Loosen the soil weekly. Before closing the leaves of the plant, spud 2 times. Use the ash for disease prevention and root feeding. Ash rate for dusting 1 sq. m. soil 250 g. 2 weeks before harvesting, stop watering.

Diseases and their prevention

Rare plantings of cabbage do not suffer from caterpillars. A fine mesh stretched over the ridge will help protect cabbage leaves from gluttonous pests. Many gardeners use pest drugs:

  1. Fitoverm.
  2. Spark.

Manual collection of caterpillars and cold water from the plumbing system helps. Leaves can be rinsed in the evening with a stream of water, the soil under the heads of cabbage can be loosened after the "shower".

To prevent diseases and pests, dust the soil with ash or dolomite flour. Loosen the aisles. Remove damaged leaves. Pull up weeds regularly.

Harvesting and storage rules

Nadezhda, which has survived sub-zero temperatures below -6 ° C, is poorly stored and loses its marketability. A short drop in temperature from -2 ° C to -3 ° C is permissible.

Cabbage intended for winter storage must be lowered into the cellar when frost sets in. Harvested for fermentation can be stored in cold rooms... Fermentation experts believe that heads of cabbage are ready for pickling if they have been frozen in the soil down to -4 ° C.

Do not hesitate and choose the Nadezhda cabbage variety for planting. Easy care for her will provide family heads of cabbage for fermentation and winter storage.

The variety was bred by domestic breeders. Heads of cabbage are dense, rounded or flat-rounded, the main purpose is pickling, salting, pickling.

Origin and development

Cabbage Nadezhda was bred in 1969 by specialists from the West Siberian Vegetable and Potato Breeding Experimental Station as a result of crossing the varieties Slava Enkgoizena and Plotnokochannaya.

The variety was included in the State Register of Russia in 1975. The originator is the scientist NIIOH N. M. Nasrullaev.

Chemical composition and useful properties

100 g of vegetable contains:

  • sugar - 4.4-6.7%
  • vitamin C - 24-39 mg
  • B5 - 0.2 mg
  • E - 0.1 mg
  • B6 - 0.1 mg
  • B2 - 0.04 mg
  • B1 - 0.03 mg
  • phosphorus - 31 mg
  • calcium - 48 mg
  • chlorine - 37 mg.

The chemical composition varies depending on the region of cultivation: in the southern regions, cabbage contains less sugars and more vitamin C.

The vegetable helps to normalize metabolic processes, has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, is useful for atherosclerosis, gout, heart and kidney pathologies.

Application features

Cabbage Nadezhda is suitable for pickling, pickling and pickling. It is consumed fresh, stewed, added to salads and first courses.

Ripening period and yield

This is a mid-season cabbage variety - the crop is ready for harvesting in 120–125 days after germination or after 95 days from the moment the seedlings are planted in a permanent place.

Marketable yield - 696-1128 c / ha, maximum - 1450 c / ha.

Disease, pest and cold resistance

The variety is resistant to black leg and gray rot, but is prone to attack by keel, bacteriosis, caterpillars, midges and aphids.

Cabbage Nadezhda tolerates frosts down to -5 ° C. The optimum temperature index for its growth is + 15… + 20 ° C. Hot (above + 25 ° C) weather contributes to the accumulation of nitrates in heads of cabbage.

Characteristics

The plant is 40-60 cm high with a semi-spreading leaf rosette. Heads of cabbage are dense, round or round-flat, reach 60–80 cm in diameter and weigh 2.4–3.4 kg.

The cover leaves are medium in size, rounded, wrinkled, slightly wavy at the edges, light green colored and covered with a thin layer of waxy coating. In section, the forks are white, the outer stump is of medium length, the inner one is short.

The heads of cabbage are juicy and tender, characterized by a balanced taste, which combines sweetness, sourness and slight bitterness.

For which regions is it suitable

Due to its frost resistance and the ability to adapt to unstable climatic conditions, the variety is successfully cultivated in Siberia, the Urals, the Far East, central Russia and other regions.

Growing

Cabbage loves a lot of light, so well-lit beds are selected for planting it. Under these conditions, the plant grows faster. When shaded, the lower leaves stop growing, begin to turn yellow and gradually die off, and the head of cabbage is not tied.

In poor lighting conditions, the heads can accumulate nitrates.

For normal growth, 15-20 degrees is enough for cabbage. Temperatures above 25 degrees negatively affect its development. An excess of moisture to a plant is no less harmful than a lack. In this case, decay of the root system occurs and a dangerous disease, bacteriosis, can occur.

For the future planting of cabbage, areas are selected where tomatoes, onions or cucumbers were previously grown. It is not recommended to plant it in the same place earlier than after 3-4 years. To scare away cabbage flies, it is advised to plant thyme, sage, anise or celery nearby.

Soil preparation

For the normal development of cabbage, a sufficient amount of nitrogen and potassium fertilizers is required. Humus is scattered on the beds in the fall, but too much dose can badly affect it. It is optimal if mineral and organic fertilizers are combined. The acidity of the soil should be around 6.6-7.4 pH.

Seedless way

In this case, in the last days of April, small holes are made on the prepared beds. The distance between the plants in a row is from 50 to 70 cm, and the row spacing is 75–80 cm. 2-3 seeds are placed in each hole, and covered with glass or film on top.

After seed germination, the strongest and most viable shoot is selected, and the rest are removed. 3-4 hilling operations are carried out per season. This not only helps to retain moisture, but also ensures the reliable support of a large fruit.

Seedling method

As a soil for planting seeds for seedlings, a mixture of equal parts of sand, peat and sod land is taken. Previously, such a soil is treated with a solution of potassium permanganate.

Seed preparation also consists in dressing them with a weak manganese solution. To do this, the seeds are placed in liquid for 20-30 minutes, and then washed with cold water. After that, they are treated with preparations designed to enhance seed growth (Agat-25, Albit, Zircon). These products also help to increase the plant's resistance to diseases and pests.

Sowing seeds of mid-season varieties, including cabbage "Nadezhda" for seedlings, is carried out from 10 to 20 March.

Seeds are sown in grooves 0.5–1 cm deep. The air temperature in the room should be in the range of 20–25 degrees, and after the emergence of shoots, it is reduced.

Seedlings are dived at the age of 2 weeks. After rooting, the temperature is lowered to 17 degrees.

Seedlings are fed twice:

  • during the period when 2-3 true leaves appear
  • 4 days before planting in the ground.

Urea (15 g), potassium chloride (30 g) and superphosphate (30 g) are used as top dressing. They are dissolved in 10 liters of water. After the appearance of 6 leaves on the plant, they are sprayed with the finished preparation "Silk". Approximately 1 week before planting in the ground, the seedlings are hardened: they increase the ventilation of the room, reduce the air temperature, and reduce watering.

Seedlings ready for planting should have 4–5 developed leaves, their height should be 18–20 cm. This is about 35–45 days after planting the seeds. Nadezhda cabbage planting in the open ground is carried out starting from the end of April, but this period may be shifted depending on weather conditions.

During the rooting period of seedlings, watering is carried out daily. On hot days, some gardeners cover the beds with newspapers. This prevents moisture from evaporating from the soil.

Subsequently, cabbage is watered about 1 time per week. 1 liter of water is enough for 1 plant, and as it grows, this volume is increased to 3-4 liters. On overdried soil, heads of cabbage crack. Watering is stopped until about 3-4 weeks before harvest.

Loosening the soil

The soil around the plants is loosened 2 weeks after planting in the ground. The next treatment is carried out after another week. Simultaneously with loosening, hilling is carried out. The best time for loosening and hilling is the next day after rain or watering.

Pros and cons

There are no special drawbacks in this variety, but there are plenty of advantages:

  • leaves do not crack
  • the plant is resistant to diseases
  • flowering is absent
  • withstands long-term transportation
  • gives a high and stable yield
  • can be used in any form
  • high shelf life (about 6 months).

Landing rules

White cabbage Nadezhda in personal subsidiary plots is grown mainly by the seedling method, however, like all mid-ripening and late-ripening varieties. This allows you to get the harvest earlier. Only in the southern regions is the practice of sowing seeds directly into the ground.

Growing seedlings

For seedlings, the Nadezhda variety begins to be sown from mid-April, focusing on weather conditions. The optimal soil is a mixture in equal parts of humus, garden soil (preferably from the site where cabbage is supposed to be grown), and peat. If it is necessary to loosen heavy soil, use coconut fiber, sand or wood ash. The latter also reduces the acidity of the soil.

According to gardeners, Nadezhda cabbage seeds have good germination. Purchased seed does not need pre-treatment. Moreover, very often the seeds are sold in the form of dragees or granules. They are already covered with a layer of nutrients. Self-collected seeds need disinfection.

Seeds are sown in containers filled with moist soil, in rows according to the 3 * 2 cm pattern. Crops are mulched and moistened from a spray bottle.

Seedlings need timely watering, several additional fertilizing with complex fertilizers. It is important that they contain nitrogen. Also, the seedlings provide good illumination. That is why it is not recommended to grow it in apartments, because with a lack of light, the seedlings stretch out and become thinner.

Transfer to the ground

Seedlings of white cabbage varieties Nadezhda are transplanted into the ground in mid-May.By this time, the plants should have reached a height of 15-20 cm and have at least 5-6 true leaves.

  • It is advisable to prepare the site in the fall. They dig it up, add compost. The amount depends on the fertility of the soil.
  • In the spring, the ridges are dug up and small holes are prepared according to the 60 * 60 cm scheme.
  • A mixture of humus, wood ash and potassium-containing fertilizers is added to the holes.
  • Before planting, the cabbage roots are recommended to be dipped in a clay mash.
  • When planting, the seedlings are buried to the first leaves.
  • The holes are covered, the soil is well crushed, making indentations at the root. Water abundantly.

Characteristics and description of the variety

Nadezhda's white cabbage is known to many experienced gardeners - it was included in the state register of breeding achievements in 10 regions of Russia back in 1975 and since then has been in deserved demand. However, it was bred even earlier - in the 60s of the twentieth century.

This is a mid-season variety. It is suitable for cultivation even in the northern part of the country. Can be cultivated in small household plots or large farms. From the moment of emergence of full shoots and to technical ripeness, it takes about 130-140 days. Harvesting is done about 75-80 days after the seedlings are planted with seedlings.

The semi-spreading rosette is medium in size. Leaves are grayish-green, medium-sized, moderately covered with a waxy coating, rounded, wavy at the edges, wrinkled.

Heads of cabbage are medium in size, rather dense, round or round-flat, weighing about 2.4-3.4 kg each. The stump is short inside. The leaves taste great. On the cut, the head of cabbage is white, on the outside it has a light green color.

The yield of cabbage Nadezhda is at a height - about 6.9-11 kg are harvested from 1 m 2. The maximum recorded yield of the variety was 14 kg / m 2.

Features of growing and care

The cultivation of this variety is carried out both with the help of seedlings and in a reckless way.

Seedling method and seedless

To get seedlings, seeds are placed in the disinfected soil, this should be done in early April. Landing in open ground is carried out in late April or early May, planting dates depend on climatic conditions.

Planting should be done only in open and well-lit areas, otherwise the fruits will be poorly formed and will be loose.

Cutaway cabbage

The soil should not be acidic. In order to increase yields, organic fertilizers (manure, humus or peat) should be placed in the soil in autumn.

Seed treatment

One of the most important stages is seed treatment. For disinfection, they should be immersed in hot water, the temperature should be no more than 50 ° C, after 20 minutes they should be removed and rinsed under running cold water, hold for a minute.

Planting seeds

Seeds are placed in moistened soil to a depth of 1.5-2 cm at a distance of 5 cm from each other.

Containers with seedlings should be stored at a temperature of 20-22 ° C for 20 days, after which they should be moved to a room with a lower temperature. During the day, it should not exceed 15 ° С, and at night it should not be lower than 8 ° С. This manipulation adapts the seedlings to the subsequent growing conditions in the open field.

Young cabbage seedlings Nadezhda

Landing in the ground

Shoots are planted in open ground when the sprout reaches 20 cm. At this stage, the sprout has already formed the first 3-4 leaves. The distance when planting on a bed should be 50-55 cm between holes, 60-70 between rows. This planting interval will not allow the roots to intertwine with each other, and the cabbage leaves will receive a sufficient amount of lighting.

Watering

Watering is done once every 3-4 days. It is best to choose a drip irrigation method to avoid excess moisture in the soil.

Hilling and loosening

It is necessary to loosen the soil and remove weeds after each watering procedure. In the process of weeding, do not deepen the hoe more than 5 cm - this can damage the roots that are not yet fixed.

Top dressing

In order to prevent deformation of the plant, cabbage needs to be fed moderately. It is not permissible to use too much mineral fertilizers. Only in this case will the product be environmentally friendly.

It is better to combine top dressing with watering

  • The first feeding: done 20-21 days after planting, about 2 liters of fertilizer should be poured under each prospective bush (10 liters of water + 2 kg of chicken manure).
  • The second feeding: done 30-31 days after planting, humus is mainly used. For each bush, you should calculate 100-120 grams of fertilizer. Abundant watering will allow all substances to be well absorbed into the soil.
  • The third feeding: in the first days of fetal formation. A solution of wood ash is used (for 10 liters of water, 400 grams of ash). For each fruit, 500 ml of fertilizer.
